Auckland Mayor Len Brown is promising one of the city's most expensive roading projects will bring jobs and economic growth to the eastern part of the city.
A new tunnel, flyover and a revamped train station is set to transform sleepy Panmure into one of Auckland's major transport hubs.
The east Auckland suburb is now on track to be a key link in a transport chain carrying more than five million passengers a year.
"It is a critical piece of transport infrastructure, we've been planning it for 25-30 years," said Brown.
The planned changes are set to cost ratepayers $1.3 billion but the council insists the investment will create jobs and productivity.
